With provincial plans to clear roadblocks to transit-oriented communities now approved, Toronto could soon join the ranks of cities like Vancouver, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Tokyo and Singapore – all home to compact communities that are closely integrated with mass transit.
“There are many jurisdictions around the world have done this and have done this very, very well,” says Kinga Surma, associate minister of transportation (GTA). “Our goal is to partner with the private sector and work with the municipalities to build something truly extraordinary in the community and provide additional amenities and services that a particular community may lack.”
